I asked the store manager about that. He said that it wasn't an issue of health or concern about "going soon", but that Joe just wanted to reduce the number of books in his house.

He did tell me that at least one well known Northern California author came by and was a little surprised to see Joe's collection of inscribed firsts from him to Joe sitting on the shelves for sale!

Most of the books are out of my league in terms of price, but I did snag a pre-release copy of "Shadow Man" (Hammett bio) by Richard Layman and a paperback copy of "Down These Mean Streets a Man Must Go" by Philip Durham.

One little gem still available is an inscribed first of Robert Crais's first book wherein he thanks Joe for helping him to get published, and there are lots of others besides.

Mark
