******** One of the things is that I came in fairly late in a series. A lot of water already under the literary bridge for Scudder. I think I might have been more appreciate if I had read some of the previous ones in the series. I want to say that there wasn't enough on-stage action, but that's not exactly accurate. I liked Hammett's MALTESE FALCON, and there's not a whole lotta action in it.

I haven't given up on Block yet. Too many people with a lot of good comments about him.
