Having read the first two translations, it's difficult to
read anything else. They are *so* good I just keep wishing I
had more of his work to read instead of what I happen to be
flipping through. Right now I'm reading Helen Nielsen's
KILLER IN THE STREETS which Ed Gorman recommends, and it's
fine solid medium-boiled novel, but it shrivels in comparison
with Manchette. He is, in my book, and on the basis of 3 TO
KILL and PRONE GUNMAN, equal to the best of Willeford,
Thompson, Leonard, Himes and Crumley. Brilliant stuff.
