Having read the first two translations, it's difficult to read anything else. They are *so* good I just keep wishing I had more of his work to read instead of what I happen to be flipping through. Right now I'm reading Helen Nielsen's KILLER IN THE STREETS which Ed Gorman recommends, and it's fine solid medium-boiled novel, but it shrivels in comparison with Manchette. He is, in my book, and on the basis of 3 TO KILL and PRONE GUNMAN, equal to the best of Willeford, Thompson, Leonard, Himes and Crumley. Brilliant stuff.
