Yes. However, in the first TV version of MIKE HAMMER, the one
starring Darren McGavin, the character carried a .38 snubbie.
Spillane was said to have likened this to taking Robin Hood's
longbow away from him and replacing it with a slingshot. When
the later series, the one with with Stacy Keach, was made,
Spillane stipulated that, whatever else was done, Mike Hammer
HAD to carry a .45 automatic.
It may be the McGavin series that the article was referring
to.
