The Hawks-directed "Big Sleep" is *quite* good enough for me, thanks. What's more, I've been known to be extremely fond of "The Long Goodbye." Still haven't forgiven the Academy for overlooking the latter film's marvellous John Williams/Johnny Mercer theme-song ...
