Jonathan Lethem wrote a strange and wonderful book called Girl in Landscape that takes many of its cues from The Searchers. A few years have passed since I read it, but it was my first exposure to Lethem and I picked it up based on a review comparing it to The Searchers. Not surprisingly, Girl In Landscape is nothing like God is a Bullet. Funny how those influences work.
