In a sense it already has. When Dick Tracy
(comfortably enshrined as one of the 20th Century's 100 Best
Hard-Boiled Characters) was first introduced, he was a
non-technological smoker. By 1947, he'd given up smoking, and
had acquired a 2-Way Wrist Radio
(the late '40s version of a cell phone) without losing a jot
of toughness.
If Dick Tracy could do it in 1947, everybody can do it
now.
