I read _Soul Circus_ last week and while I enjoyed it, I
couldn't help but feel that there was a certain sameness to
the book that has been there in a lot of Pelecanos' recent
work. He's almost writing the same book, over and over--It's
not as bad as James Lee Burke yet, but he's getting there.
_Soul Circus_ in particular was almost indistinguishable from
_Hell to Pay_, though since it is largely a direct
continuation of that story, I guess that's to be expected. I
love these books, I love the characters and the settings,
don't get me wrong, but I'd really like to see something new
and different next time.
