Bill, Thanks for calling my attention to the review of
Heartbreak & Vine: the Fate of Hardboiled Writers in
Hollywood on the BBC website. At the risk of blowing my own
trumpet, the official publication date for the book is
October 17th in Britain and Feb. in the US. For anyone
interested, and living in the vicinity of London, I'll be
giving a reading and saying a few words about the book on
October 23rd at the Garage. I'm also hoping to be in the US-
or at least the west coast- in Feb. and will keep you posted
about events there. Regarding the book itself, just to say
that it not only tells the story of various hardboiled
writers in Hollywood- the usual suspects, as well as a number
who are often overlooked- but contains interviews with the
likes of Bezzerides, Petievich, Crumley, Wambaugh, Burke,
Leonard, Ellroy, Bunker, Westlake, Pelecanos, Lehane, etc..
