I think it definitely reflects the times: JDM may be spelling it out but I think this attitude permeates the Gold Medal (& other) books of this era. Back in the 60's I held similar notions - seeing as how I was 10 years old, a virgin & almost completely unaware of the wonders of sexuality, I must have picked it up from somewhere (not JDM though).
