Russel James' latest - The Annex - looks to be based on The
Changeling by Thomas Middleton.
And there's probably hundreds of pact-with-the-devil themed
hardboiled novels out there which one could say were derived
from Marlowe's Dr Faustus
(although of course Faust goes back way earlier than
that).
