It sounds like TIGER, TIGER (aka THE STARS MY DESTINATION) which is most definitely a revenge tale. (Couldn't tell you about any Jacobean influence/references as unfortunately I've never read any of those guys although they've always sounded interesting to me. They sound like gangster yarns & I've always been a sucker for those). So many books ... yatta yatta.
