RARA-AVIS: Jacobean tragedy

I came across a reference likening Derek Raymond to the Jacobeans. From what I remember (and thoroughly enjoyed), from school, the Jacobeans tragedians were a pretty hardboiled bunch, obsessed with revenge and death. I wondered if anyone knew of a hardboiled crime novel that reworked an original Jacobean play? I vaguely recollect Alfred Bester doing a sort of sci-fi homage to Webster, Middleton, Marlowe, Ford, Tourneur, Marston, Kidd, et al. Can't remember the title...
