I just read a good POD hardboiled novel called IN HIS SHADOW by David Zeltserman. It's very much influenced by Jim Thompson, as Dave explains in an essay on how he came to write the book. You can read about his book and a couple of others at

It's nice to know that stuff like that is getting in print, thanks to POD. Too bad most of these books will never get much distribution.
