Like Carrie, I always thought "shag" was British. However, having just read Vin Packer's THREE-DAY TERROR (1957), in which she uses the word on two occasions to mean intercourse (unambiguously), I'm no longer so sure. I would imagine that Packer's usage of the word pre-dates its use over here.
