If you have time try and take a trip to Hay-on-Wye. It is the "second hand book capital of the world", how far that is true and how far it is (very succesful) tourist hype I am not sure, but it is a small market town almost completely given over to book shops. Some are extremely maloderous - which isn't always a bad thing. There is at least one specialist crime shop - the name of which I cannot remember, and any book lover would love it. By train you would need to get to Hereford, or Monmouth probably and then bus or drive. A lot of the stores do internet and out of print special services, I'm sure a Hay on Wye search would get you something.
