parker's spenser is that way too, isn't he? in _the godwulf manuscript_ he alludes to a specific quote from shakespeare, recognizes "abandon hope, all ye who enter," as dante, and is a connisieur (sp?) of wine and a gourmet cook.

unlike marlowe, however, parker knew what to do with a naked babe on the sheets. ;-)
