I was one of the people a few months back touting Feast of
Snakes in the strongest possible terms. At the same time, I
would say (listen up, Rene) that Scar Lover is not worth
reading (not just weaker Crews, but not worth the time). A
Childhood, his boyhood memoir, is quite good (and recently
back in print from a University Press (Georgia?)), but not so
nasty and intense as Feast. Doug
