There's a line somewhere between the hardboiled and sadism
(with a good helping of fetishism thrown in) and more often
than not I think Bond crosses it. It's been a while since I
read the books (except for the golf scene in GOLDFINGER,
which I reread recently), but I remember Bond as having a
cold, sneering sort of toughness.
