Ross Macdonald deserves credit for treating such topics realistically and sensitively within the framework of the hardboiled PI novel. Also Thomas Dewey, whose Mac has been deservedly nominated as a great character of crime fiction. It's nice to see that Dewey is out of print but not out of mind.

Since I'm rambling about the good stuff, let me also express my delighted surprise that so many people know about Max Latin, an obscure novelette character by a forgotten writer. The same could be said about Whitfield's Jo Gar.

Best regards,
