I forgot to nominate any of the cops in William Marshall's
Yellowthread Street series! If I'd remembered, they would
certainly have made my list of the all-time best. Guess I'll
have to wait for the next vote in 2102.
In order, the best five are Socrates Fortlow, Sam Spade, John
Rebus, Maigret, Easy Rawlins and Angie Gennaro.
Hats off to Dennis Lehane for creating the best hard-boiled
female PI.
