RARA-AVIS: Virus update

Dear All

A couple of days ago my computer picked up a virus coming from here. I can now confirm that it is someone on this list. The virus is called Exploit-MIME.gen and allows external users to take control of your computer. It exploits a fault in the way Microsoft Explorer handles MIME emails, and means that *.exe attachments can be run when an email is opened. There is a patch that can be downloaded from: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/downloads/critical/q290108/default.asp but you will also have to clean your machine and run up to date virus scanning software as well. My computer is actually not vulnerable to this as I don't use Microsoft Outlook as my mailer, but it has taken up quite a lot of my time. Those of you who do use Outlook may be spreading this virus without knowing it.

Best wishes Chris
