RE: RARA-AVIS: UPDATED Nominations List

From: Anderson, Erick (ETW) (
Date: 21 Mar 2002

Dear Fellow RA's: Thanks you all for your assistance and contributions; all greatly appreciated.

Status Report, Brush Fire, 3-21-02. Sorry for the long windedness

Section one, Nominations to Date. Can those who've made nominations go back through this and add author and book or series? Thanks.

Section Two, Rules suggested today. Let me know if these seem complete, or if you have any additions or clarifications.

Section Three, FAQs. We seem to have settled on characters from English- or English-translated works, as well as limiting the list to characters from printed works.

There you have it.

Best Regards, Erick

12. Non-Anglo characters are acceptable for nomination if the works have been translated into English.

13. I think the usual way these are done is by asking for everyone's top ten then awarding Ten points for each first place nine for each second place etc... The idea being that you get more of a consensus view and a personal weighting with more consideration and thought given to everyone's own choices (imagine how hard you would think to whittle down your own choices to ten!!). So three people picking Dick Contino as their fave would outvote 29 Dudley Smith tenth places ---- does this make sense??

14. Nominations until the last day of March. Followed by compilation of a list of all nominees. From that compiled list, vote for your top twenty. Tabulations of that vote will result in the list of the top 100. A secondary list of nominations which fall below the top 100 list will appear as
"honorable mentions" or "other characters receiving votes".

FAQ Additions 3-21

Q: Do we have a right to include non-Anglo characters? A: See Rule 13. Non-Anglo characters are acceptable for nomination if the works have been translated into English. Be aware that Avians will be voting at the end of the nomination process.
