The Killing - film by Stanley Kubrick (1956) was based on the novel CLEAN BREAK (1955) by Lionel White- It seems that Thompson, credited for additional dialog, participated also to the script. The book is really worth the read.

White is one of the specialists of the "grain of sand in the perfectly oiled machine" as shown in quite a few of his other novels.
