RARA-AVIS: Cold Six Thousand & the Kennedy assasination riff

Just picked up Cold 6 Thousand - unlike, apparently, most people who either love or loathe Ellroy I've always been kind of in the middle. I feel he's tremendously talented but I also feel that his writing is sloppy & he opts for easy sensationalism & seeing how popular he is doing what he does I don't hold much hope he'll live up to his full potential. Still, so far at least, I think he's still worth reading. This one goes into my TBR pile which is almost a library unto itself, so God knows when I'll get to read it but I wanted to ask a question of those who have read it.I've read a reference to French hitmen - does this relate to my (current) favourite Kennedy assassination theory/fantasy (take your pick) - the one that goes : Sam Giancana (New Orleans mob boss) had JFK hit, using "outside talent", specifically Corsican torpedos (I've seen the movies, don't you worry I know all the words) who aside from fees as reward were given drug dealing territories in South America?

Rene.
