RARA-AVIS: Chaze's Black Wings

I'm probably a little bit responsible for the reputation of Black Wings Has My Angel. About 35 years ago (!) I wrote an article for a fanzine called The Mystery Readers' Newsletter and discussed some paperback originals.
I think I called Black Wings the archetypal Gold Medal novel. Max Allan Collins picked up on that, and he's been a big booster of the book as well.
I haven't read the book since that time, and maybe it's not as good as I thought it was, but it seems to me that it had everything a great Gold Medal book should have. I'll have to see if I can find the article, one of these days.
