RARA-AVIS: parodies

Are there any good hard boiled parodies? That is something intentionally writen as parody, not just by a bad writer or one who just pulls out all the stops as Mel Brooks would in a movie. Is there a book that is subtle?. I know about my namesake, John Blumenthal don't consider him good and I don't think most of the list consider Janet Evanovich hard boiled though in the the first two books, the only ones I have read, I thought she did a pretty good job. I don't think an author could sustain a long series without the books either becoming too broad or repeating themselves. Mark
