If you want a book set in the Combat Zone, there's Doubting Thomas by Robert Reeves. It's about a professor who is also a porn enthusiast
(aren't they all?) and spends a lot of time in the strip clubs there. I must admit that I don't recall much else about the book, but I do remember enjoying it when I read it in the late '80s.
