I would like to second the recommendation of the Hammett
Tour. Not only is it mandatory for any and all Avians, it's
the best walking tour I've ever been on.
Sadly, in recent years it has been a summer only treat. But
Don's doing a special series of October tours described
below. If you're going to be in SF this month, don't miss
it.

Don Herron leads a three-mile, four-hour walk through the San
Francisco of Sam Spade and the Continental Op on the Dashiell
Hammett Tour. Hammett, author of The Maltese Falcon and The
Thin Man, is the City's most famous mystery writer. Herron is
one of the City's noted raconteurs, veteran of The Tentacle
Sessions and over 20 years on the mean streets.

meet n.w. corner New Main Library, Civic Center, corner
Fulton and Larkin Tour meets at NOON every Sunday in October
near the n.w. corner of the new Main Library, Fulton at
Larkin, Civic Center. Look for the guy in the hat and
trenchcoat.
