Joe Gores should be the natural descendent of Dashiell
Hammett. Like Hammett, Gores spent considerable time as a
private detective in San Francisco and has many of of his
books based there.. He even wrote the fictional HAMMETT. Yet,
except for the previously noted book and possibly INTERFACE,
which has a gimmick, to my knowledge he has never had a
conventional pi figure like the Op and never written a
straight pi novel like the Falcon. Most of his boooks are
either those of the DKA series which are really pi
procedurals or tales of revenge which often are quite
dark.
I have read a lot of Gores' books, but not all so I may be
unaware of a lot of his works. Does anybody have any thoughts
or knowledge about this? Mark
