Although it takes place in the LA of the the 40's, Ellroy's
LA quartet has some of that. Crais' DEMOLITION NIGHT and to
an extent his LA REQUIEM, have a lot about the LAPD internal
workings. I think Jim Doherty wrote a little bit about some
of this a while ago. I'm sure if encouraged he could explain
