We occasionally talk about other forms of hardboiled. Well,
when it comes to photography, the name of hardboiled is
Weegee.
Here's his description of his world:
"Life was like a timetable, tragic, but on schedule, with
little bits of comedy relief interspersed among the
crimes.
"From midnight to one . . . peeping toms on the rooftops and
fire escapes of nurses' dormitories . . . From one to two
o'clock, stick-ups of the still-open delicatessens . . . From
two to three auto accidents and fires . . . At four o'clock,
things became livelier. At that hour the bars closed, and the
boys were mellowed by drinks." A new Weegee show hanging in
the Chrysler Museum of Art in Norfolk, VA, was written up in
