The first Joe Puma novel (SHAKEDOWN, by "Roney Scott") was
published as half of an Ace Double in 1953. But of course the
other Puma was probably around then, too. As far as that
goes, the Joe Puma in SHAKEDOWN isn't exactly like the Joe
Puma of the later novels.
