Mark, Dreamboat, Doug Swanson. features Jack Flippo, The
character is an ex-reporter in Dallas. The first in the
series is Big Town. I liked this better, but I wouldn't call
it a must read. Swanson reminds me a little of Pete Hautman
and maybe early Hiaasen.
I think you definitely should read Big Red Tequila, Rick
Riordan. It's also set in Texas (San Antonio) It's Riordan's
first Tres Navarre book. All the ingredients are there for a
classic hard boiled book, but Riordan hasn't quite put them
together yet. He could be very good in the future. His next,
Widower's Two-Step won an award. I don't remember which one
