I agree with Bill Crider on this. I think Stephen King
learned the lesson from Bill, actually (an ly word there).
There are times when an adverb is completely necessary. But
we have tended to overuse them. Hence the rise some years ago
of the Tom Swifties, teaching us, yet again, not to overuse
them. I post this message with the terrible fear that I shall
have prompted a run on a trip down memory lane, and we shall
be bombarded with Swifties, and I apologize to all in
advance, she said nostalgically.
