By and large, I agree with your assessment of the later "reunion" series. However, even there Webb managed to do some fine episodes. The special two-hour episode first broadcast during the third season of the series, in which Friday and his partner are tracking a serial killer (based on the Harvey Glatman case; Friday stands in for real-life LAPD homicde ace Pierce Brooks, who solved the "Onion Field" case) is one of the best things ever done on the series, whether color, b&w, or radio.
