Mark: I remember reading and quite enjoying those Pete Hamill
books. THE GLORY HOLE MURDERS isn't very noir. It's pretty
funny, though, and has some wild moments. But here's a
warning: it's amateur sleuthing time. J.W. Ryder is a pen
name for the guy who wrote BY REASON OF INSANITY. I think,
but that's pretty suspect since I can't even recall the name.
McShane? Oh, well. Hal Masur is pretty good. The Douglas
Heyes is a definite keeper. TIGHTROPE is a keeper for sure.
So is THE ALVAREZ JOURNAL. I've also enjoyed books by Chris
Wiltz, Roger Simon, and Bill DeAndrea. I also liked MAKE MY
BED SOON by Jack Webb and the Sam Space books.
