Just like jazz and the blues are supposedly popular forms
-- yet nowadays it's a small elite that cares for them (and buys the recordings and the tickets). I make no excuses for the word elite; I'm using it literally.

Even my kids, budding jazz fans, noticed that the shelf with the jazz and blues CDs at the public library is almost always deserted. It was pretty funny to hear my older son shout: hey, they have the Old Howling Wolf!! The librarian seemed puzzled.

Some days I feel like an extraterrestrial, or at least like a Fritz Leiber character.
