He was similarly ubiquitous in the UK. He did personal
appearances, interviews, Black Dahlia was discussed by him on
a radio book club - hosted, rather strangely, on an aircraft
carrier! And, he had a substantial documentary devoted to him
on the BBC. I hope he does sell lots having just read and
enjoyed the Cold 6000 very much. I saw him speak at the
Cheletenham Festival and he put on a good show, however from
watching the doc and listening to several interviews it is
apparent that Elroy operates almost to a script, and almost
certainly "in character" as the Demon Dog of American
Literature tm. He name-checked Delillo as an influence here
as well. By the way, I don't have a problem with the way he
operated, and he was extremely entertaining, just an
observation that he does assume a persona and that a lot of
his speech follows similar riffs.
