George, Mary Daly is CJ's wife (I understand she holds the copyright to his work). They had a son named Jack. "The Snarl of the Beast" and "The Hidden Hand" are dedicated to them, according to the Hyperion reprints I have of both (and found unreadable, unfortunately, but it's hit-and-miss with Daly's work). If either of them are alive, I don't know, but Tyne Daly, the actress, is CJ's niece, so maybe you can try that route.

I will look forward to reading your thesis. I started checking out Daly after hearing Mickey Spillane based Mike Hammer on Race Williams, and I'm a big Spillane fan, so I wanted to see what he was inspired by. --Brian
