While the regionalism argument certainly works, too, I always
took Lofgren's comment to be strictly a matter of size and/or
population, that the whole US market is what US/multinational
culture distributors aim for and anything less isn't worth
bothering with. Lofgren was about to lose his major label
deal, something he never regained. Doesn't the same go for
publishing, isn't this what happened to numerous mid-list PI
writers, Rob Kantner, for instance?
