Here's the skinny: i just got this e-mail from Benoit
Thierry, the guy who runs the Coin du Polar (a fantastic
website-in french- about the roman policier/roman noir/murder
mysteries...) and he tells all of us in the
'rompol' mail, including Mesplede himself (he's the one who
was saying that there was a character in his name), that we
were had because in fact he
(Benoit) just read this very night three versions of Ellroy's
book: US, French and Spanish and he didn't find a Mesplede in
the US version, but one in the French version and another in
the Spanish version in which Ellroy uses the name of a very
well known 'polar' spanish critic....and Benoit attributes it
all to the savy of Ellroy in merchandising/marketing, whom he
calls in fact 'the king of cyber-marketing'...
so I guess we have several versions floating in the world and
since I love Brazil, I want to know who's gonna be the killer
there???

Je peux te l'affirmer en avant premi貥 ! Tu as 鴩 eu, et en
beaut頡 Je viens de lire cette nuit les deux versions, 'The
Cold Six Thousand' en VO et "American Death Trip" en VF.
C'est tr賠bien, un peu long, mais bon, je dors peu et je lis
vite. Et bien, mon cher Claude, tu t'es fait berner ! Rouler
dans la farine ! Tu n'apparais que dans la version fran硩se.
Que dalle in the amerlock version ! Qu頳alaud ce Ellroy ! Et
dans la version espagnole que je viens de finir, c'est
pareil, le tueur de Kennedy est espagnol et porte le mꭥ nom
que la star hispanniques de la critique polar. Un salaud ce
Ellroy, mais un roi du merchandising, the king of the
cyber-marketing. Qu'est-ce qu'on ferait pas, de nos jours,
pour s'assurer une promotion ʊtout casser ࠬ'occasion de la
sortie de son dernier roman !
