RARA-AVIS: Willeford, Edward Bunker and Jim Thompson

Speaking of spoilers, Bunker's memoir, Education of a Felon, mentions Willeford's name once and mispells it. Before writing No Beast So Fierce, Bunker's first published novel, he wrote a novel in the style of "Williford (sic) and Thompson." This begs some questions:

No. 1. Shouldn't editors at St. Martin's Press know how to spell Charles Willeford's name? Especially since it's the autobiography of a crime writer.

Number two. Do Willeford and Jim Thompson have anything in common as writers besides writing, at times, crime fiction?
