A question for Burke readers, and any others who are
interested. At the beginning of Dixie City Jam, Robicheaux
describes a WW II German sub that rests at the bottom of the
Gulf, off New Orleans. He then relates how German subs used
to lie waiting at the mouth of the Mississippi for cargo
ships to come down the River; they would then torpedo these
ships. Does anyone know if this is true. Did this actually
happen during the war? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks,
Len Engel
