I think Chandler seemed to be snobbish about pretty much everyone, even people he liked, for example, Hammett. Esecially interesting is his lashing out at Ross Macdonald (in Tom Nolan's bio of RM). I'd read the quote about Cain before, but have also read that he and Cain knew each other somewhat, weren't so awful to each other. Am I wrong on that? Can't remember where I read it.

And of the big three, I think Cain comes out on top in my opinion.
