Nearly finished with John D. Macdonald's AREA OF SUSPICION, a
very typical JD story of a macho business exec returning home
after four years in Florida to investigate his brother's
death. Not one of JD's better stories, I think -- too long
and the protagonists moral ruminations are a little tiresome.
Very curious about the original piece this is based on,
though (the copyright page says it's based on a Collier's
piece entitled "My Brother's Widow"). I have a suspicion the
original piece is superior.
