Depending on the year of death and the country, a writer's work won't be in the public domain until 50 or 75 years after death.

Finally found Paul Cain's Seven Slayers in one of those Vintage Black Lizard editions. Noticed that there is no copyright info. Is he in the public domain now? What about the other old-timers like Hammett?
