To say that Pelecanos rewrites westerns isn't to say that he
can't write truthfully and accurately about the immigrant
life. Pelecanos's work is thougtful and sincere, but
ideologically they are westerns. A man's gotta do what a
man's gotta do. And no one else beside the man can do that
particular job. This is what "King Suckerman" is about. "The
Sweet Forever" is more complicated and therefore I held it in
a higher esteem that "King".
