In the discussion of women in Pelecanos, how about Nick's
relationship/ friendship with the lesbian in Nick's Trip (I
think)? Karen? I thought she was a solid character, as was
Clarence's wife in a couple of the novels, and the woman who
is an attorney (who hires Nick). Just bringing up some
characters, all nicely lined out, that I haven't seen
mentioned. Overall, of course, hard- boiled characters don't
tend to have long lasting relationships, though partnerships
can last. Seems to be part of the genre. A feature the genre
shares with Westerns, though I would hardly say Pelecanos
serves up leftovers!
