Re: RARA-AVIS: Connelly

Thanks for the preview, Terrill. I've been impressed with Connelly's thrillers, though I'm not sure he belongs in the hardboiled category (and who cares?). I just wish he would have fewer twists and turns in his plots and more character development. In _The Poet_ the plot completely overshadowed the characters, and thus, in retrospect, the book seems oddly unsatisfying (though the suspense was unrelenting, a technical thing of beauty). But Michael is evolving and does not rely on a formula, which has been the downfall of many a crime writer. I expect a lot of great work from him. Besides the superior plots, I like his distance and journalistic nonchalance while telling a story.

Regards,

mt
